OPTIMA GROUP pharma - machine detail: Vial feed via infeed turn table

Value creation in the production chain

What do pharmaceutical contract fillers expect from pack-aging technologies and their filling and packaging partners? What demands do they have to meet themselves? In this interview, Alexander Stadler (head of production engineering of Haupt Pharma, Wolfratshausen) allows insights into his work. Recently, Optima Group Pharma completed the
installation of a line at Haupt’s facilities.

Mr. Stadler, what is your competitive advantage or distinctive watermark as an outsourcing partner for the pharmaceutical industry?
We strive to be an ‘inspiring partner for efficient solutions’. Whenever we receive an inquiry from a customer, it is our ambition to reduce its workload and to assume much of its tasks. If the client wants to launch a new pharmaceutical product, we act as a service provider; clarifying technical and pharmaceutical issues and sparing the client of all related efforts. In this process – and this is what distinguishes us on the market – we take a proactive approach and do not remain inert until the customer turns over their documentation. Instead, we take our client by the hand and lead the way, so to speak.

In addition, you strive to be better in your domain than the pharmaceutical companies themselves…
…yes, of course we want to make the customer aware of the advantages of contract filling. A company has its own motives for outsourcing product pack-aging, for example, if it wants to apply its resources elsewhere. Then a drug is no longer manufactured internally. Or the principal wants to change from one contract filler to another. Regardless of the specific case, the customer wants to know where to get the best possible technical support. I believe that, ultimately, our wide-ranging competence is convincing: We are not processing just one substance, but many and for multiple clients.

Being a contract filler, you are compelled to take a very cost-oriented approach. What are your specific requirements to a packaging line in this context?
Times are getting tougher; regulatory requirements have led to an ever increasing cost pressure, so that this aspect is gaining significance in the competitive environment. This cost pressure affects the customer, us, the contract filler, and also our suppliers.
